Travel Memories: Exiting a Rut in India

IMG_0569May I suggest that if you feel sick or worried or in a rut that you consider selling all your shit and you hit the road for India? I’m joking!! Kind of…

It’s just that India is very special. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Don’t be intimidated by the poverty. Don’t be intimidated by the gender inequality. Seriously. Beyond all the fucked-upness, Mother Earth vibrates higher here than any place I’ve ever experienced. It’s pretty incredible. You can be walking down the street and Glance toward heaven and see Shiva smiling at you. You can get up at 3:00 am and go up on the roof and find yourself looking down upon the holy men preparing for prayer. Bells ring, conches sound, incense burns and drums beat out holy syncopations.

One prays all the time in India. Get up early to pray. Sit down to knit and pray. Make some pretty mala and pray. Eat some yummy curry and pray. Poop and pray. Seriously. Just because it is an intimate waste- removing act doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be present and grateful. In fact, the fact that you are pooping normally and regularly is worth thanking Source about.

I’ve never been so happy in all my life. Things are utterly quiet and peaceful. I get to meditate and breathe for hours each day and it feels amazing. All I ever really wanted to do was give myself space to be me without judgment and guilt. All I ever needed was simple peace and Prana. I have found this in India.

If you want to go and need some tips, just ask me. I’m happy to help!
