There’s a powerful force that often keeps so many women from unlocking their true purpose, especially when it comes to stepping into roles like spiritual life coaching. It’s not a lack of talent or potential. It’s not even a lack of desire. Instead, it’s something far more insidious: Imposter Syndrome and perfectionism. These two forces work hand in hand, creating a barrier that keeps your purpose locked away, just out of reach.
In my free ebook, Is Spiritual Life Coaching Your Path to Purpose & 6-Figure Income?, I explore this as a potential setback for new and aspiring coaches.
Imposter Syndrome is that inner voice that tells you you’re not enough—that despite all you’ve accomplished, you’re somehow a fraud, and it’s only a matter of time before everyone else finds out. It convinces you that you don’t have the right to claim your purpose, that you’re not qualified, that you haven’t earned the right to step into a role where others look to you for guidance.
Perfectionism, on the other hand, feeds off this doubt. It tells you that you need to be flawless before you can even consider pursuing your purpose. It demands that you have everything figured out, every detail ironed out, every potential flaw eradicated before you take a single step forward. Together, Imposter Syndrome and perfectionism create a perfect storm of self-doubt, one that can keep you stuck in place, never daring to move toward the life you know you’re meant to live.
The tragedy of this is that your purpose—the thing that you feel calling you, that you know deep down you’re meant to do—remains locked away. It’s as though it’s trapped behind a wall, and every time you consider breaking through, Imposter Syndrome and perfectionism convince you to turn back. “Who are you to pursue this?” they whisper. “You’re not ready. You’re not good enough. Wait until you’re perfect—then you can try.”
But here’s the truth: waiting for perfection is a recipe for never moving forward. Perfection is an illusion, a standard that’s impossible to reach. And more importantly, it’s not necessary. Your purpose isn’t waiting for you to be perfect; it’s waiting for you to be brave. It’s waiting for you to take that first step, to begin the journey, flaws and all.
When Imposter Syndrome tells you that you’re not enough, it’s not speaking the truth. It’s speaking from fear. It’s trying to protect you from the unknown, from the possibility of failure. But in doing so, it also protects you from success, from fulfillment, from living the life you’re truly meant to live. Perfectionism does the same. It keeps you locked in a cycle of endless preparation, always waiting for the “right” moment to begin—a moment that never comes.
The irony is that what makes you feel unqualified—the imperfections, the doubts, the unresolved issues—are exactly what make you uniquely suited to fulfill your purpose. It’s your lived experience, your struggles, your ability to navigate through them, that gives you the wisdom and empathy to guide others. Your purpose is not about being perfect; it’s about being real. It’s about showing up authentically, sharing your journey, and using it to help others on theirs.
When you allow Imposter Syndrome and perfectionism to keep your purpose locked away, you’re denying the world the gifts that only you can bring. You’re denying yourself the fulfillment that comes from living in alignment with your true calling. And the longer you wait, the more disconnected you feel—not because your purpose isn’t there, but because you’ve allowed these fears to build a wall around it.
Unlocking your purpose means recognizing these forces for what they are: barriers, not truths. It means understanding that you don’t have to be perfect to start; you just have to be willing. Willing to take the risk, willing to face the fear, willing to step into your purpose even if you don’t feel fully ready. Because the truth is, you are ready. You’ve always been ready. You just need to believe it.
Imagine what your life could look like if you stopped waiting for perfection and started pursuing your purpose. Imagine the impact you could make, the lives you could change, the fulfillment you could feel. Your purpose is waiting for you—it’s time to unlock it.
